Night Caps – March 1912

I have a dim recollection of my own mother tying on her night cap before the fire and caressing it down over her ears but that is in the far off days of my childhood. It is a common instinct to love to prepare for bed before the fire.

I have been privileged to see her put in pins while we were all chatting… the men having retired….the loosening of corsets for half an hour before retiring … there is something evidently luxurious in these habits of ease and I shouldn’t blame people for their luxuries as well as the rich who have their nightly fires in their bedrooms and rest gowns and lounge jackets.
