Fashion of Barelegged Girls – July 1918

(not sure what to make of this one!)

This has not been an ideal summer for the present fashion of bare-legged girls. But they do not have the appearance of feeling the cold. And many of us are grateful for the sight of the beautiful clean legs; only occasionally bestowing a passing sympathy for the owner of particularly thin limbs.

But when they are plump and pink —- ! I admired one day a stoutish girl of ten or so dressed in white rushing like a whirlwind across the street. She wore short white socks, and her knickers ended several inches above her knees. Her head was bare and a pink ribbon tied back her thick yellow hair, the same coloured ribbon threaded her white jumper and exactly matched the colour of her plump round legs, and of her cheeks.
